Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1973 to 1979), he played at the defensive tackle and defensive end positions in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Born Wallace Hashim Chambers, he was raised in Michigan where he played football at Mount Clemens High School. He played collegiate football at Eastern Kentucky University and achieved All American honors. Selected by the Chicago Bears as the number 8 overall pick during the 1973 NFL Draft, he totaled 88 career regular season games. He distinguished himself during his rookie year (1973), when he was named Defensive Player Rookie of the Year. Additionally, he achieved Pro Bowl recognition three times and All Pro status once. after retiring as a player, he remained in the game and served as a defensive coordinator on the collegiate level. He returned to the NFL in 1989, when he served as defensive line coach with the New York Jets under Joe Walton.
